They are alive and well!!!
We visited the afforestation of over 120,000 pine trees in the communities of the districts of Checca and Kunturkanki, Province of Canas (Cusco) on the 22nd of June, 2011
We feared that the dry season and the extreme cold of May and June would have killed the trees. But the farmers had protected them with straw or by building mud walls around them. They had also irrigated many trees. About 80% of the pine trees resisted very well, even those without protection. The cold season isn't over yet, but we are confident that it is possible to invest in forestation of these communities.
The villagers are very excited and are enthusiastically preparing for the next afforestation, which will take place in December.
